Another great trip!

I am taking my family (husband, four kids and me) to London for a week next week! If you have any "must-sees", please post and let me know! We are going to the wax museum, seeing "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (did you know it was written by Ian Fleming of James Bond fame?) and going up in the London Eye.

We are staying in a flat in Kensington and hope to eat out for lunch only. Any food or trip tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you're in South Kensington, you should take in the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum, because they're actually fun. The V&A can also be good, depending on what their special exhibit is.

If you've got time, you could also stop off at Imperial College and see what a proper university looks like :)

The Natural History Museum is very good. I particularly like the carved monkeys climbing the pillars in the main lobby. The Imperial War Musuem is also very good, particularly if anyone is interested in military history. It is slightly off the beaten path but worth the effort. It's near the London Eye. They have a ton of interesting exhibits, including a replica of a WWI trench you can walk through, a Holocaust exhibit, and an exhibit on espionage, which is full of Q-like spy gadgets.

Museum of London is interesting and child-friendly, also its offshoot the Museum in Docklands. If weather is reasonable then a trip down the river - say, Westminster to Greenwich - is interesting. Once there, the Cutty Sark, Maritime Museum if they're not museumed-out, stand on the meridian line at the observatory and plenty of space for the kids to run around while you two take in the pleasant surroundings. (Docklands Light Railway goes there too.) Have fun!

As an American living here, our favorites (not favourites) are Trafalgar Square and the adjacent National Gallery (for great art, spanning several hundred years and dozen countries, but not mind-boggling quantities of it); Covent Garden market, which is walking distance from the theaters (theatres) where you're probably going to see Chitty Chitty; and the Portobello Road Market, a Saturday-only street market selling antiquities and collectables at one end, fantastic vegetables and fruits in the middle and souvenirs, fashion, and trinkets at the far end. But don't miss the parks! Gotta see the Albert Memorial on the south side of Hyde Park--and the park itself is totally flower-covered this time of year. Enjoy your trip!
